We Provide ABS Plastic Machining Services to Match Your Needs!

With a focus on CNC machining of ABS plastic, we support prototyping and full-scale production. Our workshop is equipped with advanced 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines, our in-house capabilites are able to handle tight tolerances and complex geometris with speed and consistency of ABS CNC machining parts.

What is Machined ABS

Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, ABS is a thermoplastic for CNC machining with excellent dimensional stability, toughness, and eash of machining. The machined ABS is used in a wide array of industries due to its low cost, and exceptional mechanical properties. It resists impact, handles moderate heat (up to ~80°C), and can be easily painted or glued, making it a solid choice for enclosures, housings, and structural parts.

Machined ABS Grades We Work With

There is a wide range of ABS grades available, each offering different mechanical, thermal, and surface finish characteristics. As a ABS machining supplier, we specialize in selecting and customizing the right ABS material to meet your exact performance needs. Here are the ABS grades we regularly work with.

  • Standard ABS: Ideal for general-purpose machining. We often use it to produce durable housings, brackets, and functional prototypes with a clean surface finish.
  • ABS Flame-Retardant: This UL 94 V-0 rated grade is our go-to for clients in the electronics industry needing enclosures and parts that meet fire safety standards.
  • ABS/PC Blend: When higher impact resistance or heat performance is needed, we turn to this blend. It machines well and performs reliably in more demanding conditions.
  • High-Impact ABS: For mechanical parts that take a beating, this is a trusted choice. We frequently machine it for end-use components that require added toughness without compromising precision.

Types of ABS Machining We Offer

ABS Machining Finishes

We offer two standard surface finish options for machined ABS parts, depending on the functional and visual requirements of the application.

As Machined

ABS parts are delivered directly after CNC machining. Surfaces will typically show fine tool marks or swirls, which is acceptable for functional prototypes or internal components where appearance is not critical.

Bead Blast

For applications requiring a matte surface, bead blasting with fine glass beads is available. This finish helps reduce surface shine, though it may result in minor unevenness or affect small, detailed features on the part.

Machined ABS Properties

Here are the key material properties of machining ABS, the data shall change based on ABS grade and the adding filler.

Item Value
Tensile Strength 40 MPa
Flexural Strength 75 MPa
Impact Strength (Notched Izod) 15–30 kJ/m²
Heat Deflection Temperature ~95–105°C
Density ~1.04 g/cm³
Hardness (Rockwell) R100–R120
Shrinkage Rate ~0.4–0.7% (important for dimensional accuracy)

Key Benefits of ABS Plastic Machining

  • ABS machining offers high impact resistance, making parts durable.
  • It provides good dimensional stability for precise machining.
  • ABS is lightweight, which simplifies handling and transportation.
  • It’s easy to machine, allowing for complex designs with accuracy.
  • ABS resists oils, acids, and alkalis, enhancing its reliability.
  • It’s cost-effective, making it ideal for mass production.

Shortcomings of ABS Plastic Machining

  • ABS has a low heat resistance, limiting its use in high-temperature environments.
  • The surface can scratch easily, which may affect aesthetics.
  • It is not UV-stable and can degrade when exposed to sunlight.
  • ABS becomes brittle in low temperatures, affecting performance.
  • The material absorbs moisture, which can impact its properties over time.
